Hi,

Can somebody tell me what is the level of mathematics required to write the physics GRE exam. If i directly want to go for the integrated PHD degree, does that require even higher level of mathematics. References to some textbooks would be most useful. On the physics department site of the Caltech University, its mentioned that Calculus at the level of T.M Apostol's Mathematical Analysis is expected from the applicants.

Thanks in advance...

Certainly nothing more advanced that differential equations is required, although I've seen PGRE problems asking you to solve for eigenvalues/vectors so linear alegebra might also be helpful. But for the most part all you need algebra, maybe a little calculus (not much... you won't be asked in to integrate complicated functions) and lots and lots of ingenuity.

just look at the sample exam offered on the ETS website.
