Placement exam?

  • As many already know, studying for the physics GRE and getting accepted into a graduate program is not the final hurdle in your physics career.
  • There are many issues current physics graduate students face such as studying for their qualifier, deciding upon a field of research, choosing an advisor, being an effective teaching assistant, trying to have a social life, navigating department politics, dealing with stress, utilizing financial aid, etc.

Placement exam?

Post by thehairupthere » Tue Jul 12, 2016 8:52 pm

Hello, so I'm starting grad school next month(!!) and have to sit a placement exam. I'm hoping to get exemption from most physics classes because I wanna CS classes instead, so I'm trying to do as well as I can on the placement exam.

Folks who have already sat this: what should I expect? I know this differs by institution etc, but in general (or from your experience, or if you, by any chance, went to carnegie mellon), could you tell us a bit about what type of questions there was, on what level, etc?

Much appreciated :-)
