Transferring from CMT to HEP?

  • As many already know, studying for the physics GRE and getting accepted into a graduate program is not the final hurdle in your physics career.
  • There are many issues current physics graduate students face such as studying for their qualifier, deciding upon a field of research, choosing an advisor, being an effective teaching assistant, trying to have a social life, navigating department politics, dealing with stress, utilizing financial aid, etc.

Transferring from CMT to HEP?

Postby 234vohs » Wed Apr 18, 2018 2:07 pm

Hello,
I am an International student majoring in electrical engineering. I have three publications on condensed matter theory stuffs. Since the funding opportunity in High energy theory is very limited plus I am an EE major (which may be considered as a negative point), I was wondering that will it be possible for me to apply for condensed matter theory instead and transfer to HEP theory group later? Does it sound stupid?
