I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE

This thread is for people to vent their frustration as our futures are determined by unknown people hundreds of miles away. Myself, I'm sick of waiting. I was accepted to one of my backups (Oregon) and that's only made me want to here from the others! Obviously being accepted by a backup is not that exciting, by definition.

I'm freaking out..................I want to know NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!

On the plus side, I realized since I at least got in somewhere, I'll never have to take a stupid ETS test again. No matter what happens to me in physics, I vow never go to law school just because of the fact that I would have to take the LSAT.

Feel free to rant here.

Me too

I just created my account to post on this thread.

I am freaking out too.

No acceptances yet.

I will post my stats in a related thread if I get accepted to any of my Universities.

yes, fermiboy, you are correct, we will never have to sit for the ETS std test again. I also want the decision now NOW NOW NOW........... ( this goes to infinity and hence does not converge)

Although I have heard from two back ups already, as you said, they are by "definition" NOT an excitement.

How can grad school committees not realize that they were also in the same boat as we are, once upon a time ? I hope they do, but it is so hard to wait.

Does 1/(NOW) converge? I think it's conditionally convergent. What about 1/(NOW !) ? Definitely.

1/(NOW)^2 ? Exercise left to reader.

Grae313, your post is making little difficult for us to read all other posts( cuz we have to scroll all the way down to the right). Can you please break that in two lines?

I have not heard from any school other than the backups myself and it is So FREAKING ANNOYING.

RG heard from all the places that I applied to in ONE DAY in a row. Why can not that happen to us also ? ( I do not mind getting four rejections in a row on the same day either. I just want the decision. Hopefully, there will be one good school that will let me in :?

This forum's name should be changed. No one comes here to talk about the GRE. All we ever talk about is graduate admissions.

yeah Yosun's solution website certainly made some parts of this site obsolete

I appreciate that you didn't type very many G's or H's, as those sounds cannot be sustained.

Yeah, I am basically going insane. If I don't snap out of it, I will end up failing all my classes this semester. And I need some of them to graduate. I can't even do things that are fun during this unproductive period. I think my muscles and my brain have atrophied. Things are looking pretty bleak.

Why do I go to sleep at night? Because no grad school is going to send me an admissions notification in the middle of the night, and I can check the next morning (only half joking).

Anyone else notice the UCSB online application is down?

Also, as obsessed as I am, let me just say that apparently unlike some of you guys, even though I've only gotten into my "safety" school so far, it is still a place I would be happy to go. I wouldn't relegate it to strictly "backup" and if I don't hear back from 3 more schools I'll probably be flying there in a month to check it out (on their dime, of course). It's not that bad if you've gotten in somewhere.

The only rational thing to do in this situation is hire pyschic spies to learn the secrets of the admissions committee.

psychic physicists?

Regarding the title of this thread, I'm really getting fed up dealing with graduate schools. Even though I have been accepted to Madison, they are dicking me around on funding. IF you get an RA position anywhere on campus you get a tuition waiver, but if not they expect you to pay tuition. If it came down to it I think I'd rather NOT go to graduate school if I have to pay tuition. There is no possible way I could support myself while going to school and simultaneously paying tuition. They tell me that they have a good track record of finding students funding, but the numbers just don't add up. I'm certainly not going to accept their offer if they can't come up with some cash to back it up.[/i][/b]

by grae313
man... I hear you on tuition woes, but I'd rather have an admit with no word yet on funding than no admits at all!

I'm just trying to keep my head from exploding for a couple more weeks, and if I haven't heard anything by then I'm going to give up on trying to keep my head from exploding.

You can substitute any nasty 4-letter word in for @#$% so long as no letters are repeated...

Why are you happy, butsurigakusha?

quizivex, your favorite P..........N has started sending acceptances!

Because I haven't received multiple admission offers yet, so I don't have the pressure of having to make an extremely important decision that will have a huge effect on my future.

And I am going night skiing in a little while.

Yes RG, thanks for reminding me that I'm fucked :D

My top choice and my safety have already sent acceptances.... looks like I'm joining the task force. I think if all of us who don't succeed in this silly admissions game put our minds together, we could create something really amazing that'll actually matter...

Hey no, I did not mean that, you have an excellent chance for getting into

Princeton. I was jus little curious whether you heard from them or not yet.

I think somebody posted a VERY LONG sentence and now it is getting difficult

to read sentences. I could not figure out who that was! I think it is good if we

break sentences so that we do not have to scroll all the way to the right or left

and scratch our head everytime even for doing simple things like reading posts on this forum!

Posted: Sat Feb 02, 2008 7:10 pm

Better yet we could
Chop our sentences up to
Make them all haikus.

There once was a lady from Bude
Who went swimming one day in the lake.

A man in a punt
Stuck his pole in the water

And said "You can't swim here -- it's private."

from wikipedia entry on limerick.

RG, it was me and my very long "AAARRRGGHHH!!!!" I fixed it. You don't have to worry about long sentences because it will automatically word-wrap them, only very very very very long words :)

Grading calc psets... why can't these kids just answer all the problems clearly and correctly to make my life easier? (Not answering any of the problems would have that effect too...)

dlenmn, I wish I knew the reason....
After all, what is so hard about a calculus problem?

Well, truth be told, I wouldn't want to grade the answers I submitted back in the day. Everyone is screwing up this one problem though, and it's driving me nuts. People are messing up some things they shouldn't, like differentiating polynomials...

Posted: Mon Feb 04, 2008 5:31 pm

That would be funny if they counted the amount of times I check. They would be like "Dude, checking your app ~ 10^3 times? Get a life! Decision: rejected."

My first post -- what a brilliant idea to have venting space! All my schools had post-Dec. 28 deadlines so I'm gonna have to wait at least one more full week before anything shows up.

How's this for pathetic: I've lived in the same apartment for TWO YEARS, and I only memorized my mailbox code LAST WEEK because I live by the mailbox now, waiting for decisions to arrive... but they haven't... and they should really hurry up... :(
