Physics Books ( tragic, non-textbooks )

Post by jeffreyweee » Tue Oct 09, 2012 12:19 am

For one of my graduate classes I have to read a physics book and write a report on what I've learned (I thought these type of assignments stopped in elementary school). At any rate, I don't have any physics books I'm currently looking forward to reading so I'd love for some suggestions. My research / interest is Biophysics, however I enjoy most physics subjects besides Quantum.

At the same time, has anyone read Geometry of the Imagination by Hilbert? The book doesn't qualify for my class, however I thought the latter chapters looked especially interesting.

It would be a great thing if I got to read a non-textbook for a class :P Have you considered these books:

A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman [warning: my opinion is that this book is mostly him bragging about how great he is, but it's still entertaining]
Physics of Star Trek, by Lawrence Krauss [haven't read this but have it on my shelf]

I don't know if these would count....
Galileo (a play by Bertolt Brecht) http://www.amazon.com/Galileo-Bertolt-B ... 0802130593
The Structure of Scientific Revolution, by Kuhn http://www.amazon.com/Structure-Scienti ... 0226458083

Most of these ideas were required reading for a Philosophy of Science course!

If you want to read some good books in biophysics, I can recommend:
