I was recently scanning wikipedia and came upon the article about cellular automata. I thought the subject was immensely fascinating and was wondering what math was required to learn the subject. Based off of the article, it seemed like it was oriented towards those with training in pure mathematics. I am going to be a 3rd year physics major, having taken calculus 1-3, linear algebra, and differential equations. Is this enough math to pick up a textbook on the subject and learn about it or should I take some courses in the math dept?

Best regards
