Help! The ETS has let 10 of us down badly.

The staff at the University of Lancaster UK (centre number 10770) knew nothing about the GRE subject test that was supposed to be taking place. There were 10 of us there who all had official documentation and registration numbers issued by ETS so the university security staff were just as baffled as us! We were told to report to the physics department but it was completely shut without any hint of a GRE test.

We got together and wrote an email to the complaints department of ETS but we fear that our applications will be set back by a year because of ETS's clerical error. We are all going to individually call the ETS information number on Monday but we have no idea what is going to happen.

Has anybody had an experience with ETS like this before? If the ETS try to stonewall us is there any institution in the US who can help us? We are asking for the test to be rescheduled and travel expenses reimbursed.

Any information or advice would be a great help to us right now.

There's almost no way they reschedule the test. Unfortunately, that would compromise test integrity. You have a strong right to complain, however, and it's possible that schools in the US will still look at your application and offer preliminary acceptance based on your performance on the April test if you include a corroborated statement about ETS's mistake with your application. Getting ETS to send an apology letter to the schools you've applied to might be best case scenario.

Along with calling ETS, you should call each school and explain the situation ASAP. I seriously doubt the ETS is just going to sit there and do nothing. If they don't fix this, you have grounds for a class-action law suit against ETS and against the University of Lancaster, assuming you have to wait an entire year to apply to graduate school. The lawyers at ETS know this.

ETS official website reports that both General GRE AND Subject GRE are given at a specific institute here in Gaza Strip. But When I asked that institute they say that only General GRE is given. If I knew this a couple of months ago, I might have done something (maybe I might have traveled to nearby Egypt to take PGRE).

I wonder why such things happen, it is not our fault !

Call ETS ASAP! We had an issue last year, where no proctors had shown up to the room we were supposed to be testing at. After talking with ETS that morning we were given the option to a make up test, we just had to agree as a whole group which weekend to take it. However about an hour and half after the supposed start time one of the proctors showed up and we went ahead with testing and didn't have to deal with a make up. The option for a make up test should be possible if ETS made an error about testing location.

Thanks for your support and concern. I am right now sat in a hotel bar close to my makeup test centre! They rescheduled the test for the 26th and we can get a refund on our travel expenses for this trip. It was a real frightener though. ETS were still telling us to go to Kent right before the exam, even tough our makeup test is in Leeds. I'm going to do one more practice test then hit the hay.

Thats great! I read this sometime after taking the pgre last November and was very worried for you guys. I hope everything went well and that if nothing else, you received more time to better prepare yourself for the test!
